Thanks to Charles Heimler charlesheimler@yahoo.com of Fleet 12 for the write up.

History was made this weekend past when the first ever NorCal entry into the GFU 24 hour regatta at Mission Bay rallied to a fourth place finish, besting the stalwart ABYC/MBYC team (who had to quit at dark to attend to chair care duties, team 505 who found no advantage in light air, and the Newport Team (who missed the start because they couldn't get boat). GFU has now become a family affair--the winners were the MBYC Junior team who lapped everyone in the wee hours of the morning, proving youth and sobriety will triumph over age, experience and a college education.

OBYC came in second and Hurtin for Certain (most twenty-something hotshots) following. Robin Gales, Charles Heimler, Robby Gales, Dr. Bob Jackman and John Jackman (former Canadian Natl. champ) helmed. Robby Gales, Paula and her sister Melia, Elizabeth H. crewed. A fine beach party with sounds by the LomaTones was enjoyed by all. Fleet 12's efforts were handicapped by our poor performance during, of all events, the beer-drinking relay at the start of the race. All agreed we should train more for that essential part of the race.

One more note--6 S.D. boats are coming to the PCC's, Augie Diaz is coming from Miami, the World's sailors will be using it to train.

C.H.

Final Results:

  1. Team Still So...
  2. Team OBYC
  3. Hurtin for Certain
  4. Team NorCal
  5. Team 505
  6. Team Fear Factor (afraid of the dark)
  7. Team Newport.
