Light winds and hazy skies posed challenging racing with shifty conditions on Mission Bay. Day 1 was dominated by Stacy Szabo/Renee Bartell and Carolyn Brown/Julie Redler who easily lead the pack. Abigail Ahmanson/Chris Curtis looked to dominate the first race but a little confusion at the finish forced the RC to throw it out. The last race of the day played a huge left shift. For those in the back of the fleet it was a "Hail Mary". Stacy pulled it out in the end with Carolyn a close second.
We had a great turnout for the Fleet Meeting at MBYC and were joined by the Lido Fleet. Thanks to Laurel O'Neill for organizing the festivities. Dave Tillson was the Master Blender Sat. Night. causing many slow moving gals and Boat Boys Sun morning.
For Day 2 we had a great support team on the water with more of the same conditions. Light and shifty in the morning with big gains downwind. In race 1 Angel O'Mahoney/Heidi So and Holly O'Hare/Teresa O'Dea lead the pack by a large margin around the leward mark. Angel managed to hold her lead while crowds watched Holly stop as Rowena Carlson/Laura Nottoli and Jerelyn Biehl/Deanne Reynolds motored upwind. Finishing 2-3 respectively. Barb Tillson/Joanne O'Dea had great finishes in races 2-3 with a 2 - 1 as did Jerelyn and Deanne with a 1 - 2 despite not sailing on Saturday. In the final race Alex Brown/Michelle Munroe and Kirsten Cummings/Moni Lampi did an outstanding job in tough conditions with Alex pulling out 1st and Kirsten a close second. But it was Stacy who consistently stayed near the front of the pack with impressive results and 2 bullets in races 5-6.
Thanks to PRO Ken Redler and our Boat Boys (sporting new bright orange T-shirts) for great courses with 10 races in all, Julie with trophies, and Carolyn for pulling it all together. See you are Lune de Snipe June 3rd!
