Snipe Fleet 532, Annapolis, MD
Welcome to one of the most competitive and long-standing Snipe Fleets
in the country. Based in “America’s Sailing Capital”,
the Annapolis Snipe Fleet was one of the charter fleets
of the renowned Severn Sailing Association. In the past 10 years, the
Annapolis Snipe
Fleet has counted in its ranks 3 skippers to qualify for the Worlds,
a 2-time US Women’s National Champion, 2 Dinghy Coaches from the
Naval Academy, and a US Sailing Team Olympic qualifier. We have hosted
a Women’s World Championship, US National Championships, North
American Championships, Atlantic Coast Championships and Worlds Qualifier
events.
The Annapolis Snipe Fleet also recognizes the importance of fun. Original
home of the “Hard Party Event”, the local fleet walks and
talks (and drinks!) the Snipe Motto of “Serious Sailing, Serious
Fun”.
Our social activities include Fleet Parties, Fleet Picnics,
Fleet BBQ’s – even Fleet Bowling! Most of the current fleet
members have families, so we are always mindful either include kids or
provide babysitting whenever possible. Sailing Snipes at SSA run the full range from the super casual Tuesday
Night racing (TESOD – Tuesday Evening Sailing One Designs) to some
of the most competitive invitational events in the country.
We host 2
annual invitational regattas (the Colonial Cup in June, and the Frigid
Digit in October) that attract the best and fastest from around the
country including Rolex Yachtman of the Year Augie Diaz and the venerable
Peter
Commette to compete with our own Henry Filter, who usually gives them
a run for their money. As part of SCIRA’s District One, we have
a fun group of 5-10 skippers who travel to away regattas from Maryland
to Boston, plus the Nationals, North Americans and the Southern Circuit.
The fleet owns a triple-deck Snipe trailer to facilitate travel to the
major events. For the more casual racer, we also have 3 SSA Club
Events from April – October. We also host at least one clinic a year and
are always generous with our time to help the casual sailor improve their
skills.
To join the fun, contact Fleet Captain Lisa Pline (aka “The Fleet
Mom”) at lisa@teampline.org or (410) 263-8457.
